Welcome to this session of grand rounds, a collection of posts I have discovered in the blogosphere and have found of interest and hope you do too.
This offering of Grand Rounds looks at articles from around the web that deal with issues that crop up with retirement.
It is hard to wander around aimlessly and by sheer luck end up at the destination you wanted.
Most of us therefore use GPS or a map when we are trying to get somewhere important.
The same methods should be used by those who want to retire early.
Physician on Fire takes the role of a retirement GPS in, “5 Planning Tactics to Aid Your FIRE Journey.”
For me the scariest transition will come when I finally decide it is time to hang up the MRI machine.
It is hard to put something that up until then would be theoretical into practice.
I can truly see myself battling with One More Year Syndrome because it will be hard to give up a reliable, and large, income and subsequently depend on investment income.
Financial Success MD sheds some light on his decision making tree regarding retirement in, “How I Knew it was Time to Retire.”
I am the type of person that creates a written checklist whenever I travel (of course even completing this checklist does not mean things go smoothly).
The checklist ensures that I am not leaving anything of importance behind once I am leaving home for an extended time.
So it makes sense if you are leaving work, aka retirement, a checklist is essential to make sure you are not missing anything of import.
Fear not, FI Physician is here to rescue you in, “Retiring Physician Checklist.”
When you are working there is almost no time to do other things, which certainly can be a problem.
What is less intuitive is that it is also problematic when you have too much time and nothing to do, an issue some retirees face.
Fear not, ESI Money gives some food for thought in, “What Will You Do All Day in Retirement?”
Timing is everything.
This is especially true for determining when to retire.
If you retire and then there is a global recession, that nest egg you worked your entire life for could get cracked (this is known as the Sequence Of Return Risk (SORR)).
Financial Samurai shares various time periods where you should think twice before retiring in, “Top 10 Worst Times to Retire Early (Or Retire Normally).”
Hope you enjoyed the reading material.
Have a great rest of the week.
