I think most people would agree that when it comes to job security, being a physician has to be pretty high up there on the list.

That makes the news that physicians getting furloughed even more shocking because of the global pandemic..

I myself have not been immune from this as my radiology partner and I decided to self-furlough due to a dramatic decrease in patient studies being performed.

Smart Money MD also describes the plight of some of our colleagues in, “Furloughed Physicians During the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

 

 

Along the same lines, Investing Doc gives a heartfelt play by play of what has been happening to his Internal Medicine practice and some of the tough decisions he had to face in, “COVID-19 Effects and The Financial Changes To My Practice.”

 

 

One of the most dangerous times financially is when you are about to or have just recently transitioned to a new stage in your financial life cycle.

You are probably familiar with the sequence of returns risk that early retirees could possibly face.

Another financial precarious position is when you are first starting out building your own private practice.

Can you imagine the horror of just committing a large percentage of your hard earned money to start out a medical career only to have COVID-19 come around and shake your financial fundamentals to the core?

Well unfortunately this is exactly what happened to a plastic surgeon who was only 8 months into a private practice he established.

Sure we know that we need to practice good hygiene/hand washing techniques as well as wearing masks to prevent spread of COVID-19.
